How to increase your ranking in search engines

Getting your website to the top of google

When it comes to search engine ranking, many people ask questions like: How many keywords should I include in my anchor text, how many keywords should I have on the page, should I use a short copy or a long copy, can I use Flash or not, how many keywords should I include in my alternative text?

A general statement to answer the above questions is that "magic numbers do not exist". The most important thing you can understand as an expert in search engine optimization is that the algorithms are changing. Just when you think you understand what makes you the number one keyword in a search engine, something could easily change, and you may have to spend months or even years understanding the new algorithm.

It is better not to try to reverse the algorithm, but to do something simpler instead... to monitor the main competitors. All you have to do is understand which elements your competitors use to get them to the top.

How to increase your ranking in search engines

The most important elements to get the first positions in the search engines are :

Number, quality and relevance of incoming links to your website.
Fresh, relevant and high-quality content (should be added frequently)
Keyword density of your homepage or any page that you would like to classify as high-ranking

Links, Links, Links, Links, Links

The first thing you should look at from the sides of your competitors are the incoming links. This means the number of pages that link to your website. You can measure it simply by going to Google and entering: "link:///www.yourcompetitorssite.com". However, you do it not only on Google, because they do not show all the real links pointing to a website. Yahoo and MSN tend to display many more links to each website.

Part of the observation should focus not only on what the links say, but also where they come from. Think about the category from which these links originate. When you start to see a recurring pattern, you should actively search for links from this category.

Some manufacturers use special software to create robotic content. They generate thousands of pages with links to their pages. This practice can be very dangerous, as Google penalizes non-natural links or violations of the Terms of Use. And what happened is those ties don't look natural. One day a page can have 50 links and the next day 2000 links that all say the same thing and come from the same IP address.

If you understand how to observe, it'll never happen to you. You will learn to look at your competitors and see how they relate to you. Then do what they do.

Fresh and High-Quality Content

The second thing to consider is how much fresh content the best sites have. Search engines love relevant quality content that is frequently added and updated. You will probably find that the best sites in your niche have many articles and other high quality content, and continually add new content to their websites.

People who surf the Internet often look for information, so the content is the "fuel" of Internet traffic. If you want to attract many potential customers to your website, you need to ensure that you provide enough content to suit your interests. Frequent updates with more quality content bring visitors to your website over and over again.

Keyword Density

The third thing you need to consider is the keyword density of your competitors - how often should you repeat your master keywords and where on the site should your master keywords be mentioned? There is no magic number here either, it's about searching and measuring against the best websites in your market. But what should we measure?

Meta Tags
 Alt Tags
 Title/Caption
 Image names on the page
 Heading tags: h1, h2, h3
Frequency and position of keywords in the body of the text.

Each of these elements must be measured independently. There are tools to compare the keyword density with that of your competitors. If you compare them with the 3 or 5 best pages, you can start to understand the secrets of the top positions.

Here, too, the density of your keywords must look natural, otherwise you cannot optimize the whole thing. This is the case if you use keywords too often or too rarely. If you don't look natural, your ranking will suffer.

So, what did we learn here? Basically, the key to search engine positioning is to understand what the top 5 websites do in your niche and apply it to your own website optimization.

What are you going to do now? Sign out and start receiving incoming links for your website. Add quality content to your website every day. And make sure that your on-site optimization, like the density of keywords, is similar to that of your main competitors. Keep this every day and you will lead the search engines before you know it.
